Jackie Robinson Museum

client: Jackie Robinson Foundation

role: creative technologist

agency: Gensler

“An immersive, media-based museum experience allows visitors to better understand the racism and prejudice Robinson encountered beyond the baseball field, as well as stories of his lasting influence on sports, politics, and entertainment today. Leveraging Gensler’s expertise in museum and digital experience design, the new museum realizes the Jackie Robinson Foundation’s goal to preserve the legacy of one of the most important Americans of the 20th century and encourages others to act by creating an impactful experience for visitors as well as the surrounding community.”

I helped design the hardware systems and oversaw the implementation for 3 key touchpoints in the museum:

Crossing the Color Line: dual projection onto 2 walls, playing audio and video discussing challenges faced by the Robinsons

Legacy of Impact: 42 android-based tablets and audio handsets that advance from an attract loop to short interviews with notable people. Snippets from various interviews play from 8 of the horn loudspeakers on the walls.

Game Day: 2 widescreen tablets that users navigate to learn more about Ebbet’s Field and allow them to start shows featuring choreography between a large LED screen, audio, projection onto the field, and internal lighting of a scale model of Ebbet’s Field.

I worked with physical designers on the form and integration of technology, software designers on the systems architecture, and the AV integrator to ensure our systems realized the expectations of our creative directors.
