Alone, Together

artist: Lara Baladi

role: software developer

"Alone, Together..., In Media Res" is a generative 3 screen video installation by Lara Baladi. Videos are selected in a semi random process based on an approximately 50 minute long scripted series of scenes. Each scene consists of a "director" monitor filled with single video whose audio is louder than the content being played on the 2 other monitors. The 2 other monitors each select 1, 4 or 9 videos from an archive of thematically related material. Each time the installation advances to a new scene, new videos are displayed and the positions of the videos shift randomly.

This video installation has been viewed in the following galleries:

  • Museum Für Photographie Braunschweig in Braunschweig, Germany

  • Museum Folkwang in Essen, Germany

  • Contemporary Art Centre of South Australia in Parkside, South Australia

  • Kowal+Odermatt in Miami for Art Basil

  • Fotofest International in Houston, Texas

  • Helen Day Art Center in Stowe, Vermont
