I helped design several media elements for the Starbucks Roastery in Shanghai. The work I’m most proud of are the large swinging doors that allow the Tasting Room to be divided from the rest of the space. While off, the doors appear to be simple swinging doors with American Walnut wood veneer on each side. LEDs inside the doors allow Starbucks to play video that appears to emanate magically from within. 

There were several aesthetic and engineering challenges related to color temperature, wood grain, weight, and heat that we were able to resolve gracefully and I’m very happy with the final product.
